Is your skin oily which leaves a greasy sheen on your face almost all the time? This can be annoying and difficult to manage as it can make you look sweaty and tired even when you aren’t. This is because your skin produces more sebum than required which gives it an oily texture. You may have tried several products to keep it under control but at times using the wrong products could trigger more oil production. Here’s what you need to keep in mind.
Our skin needs a certain amount of oil to keep it healthy, but often when there is an excess production of oil, it can lead to issues. Hormone levels, genetics, poor diet and even humidity are the biggest influences on the skin’s oil production.

The best remedy for it is to keep the skin clean.

Use a skin toner
Skin toners can help control the oil to an extent. But you do not have to apply it all over your face. Only using it on the areas that are particularly oily will suffice. Usually the T-zone is oiler than the rest of the face. You can use the toner there.
Exfoliate regularly
You are likely to have more build-up and dead skin cells since the oil comes in contact with dirt which settles on your face. You should therefore exfoliate your skin regularly. This will unclog pores and prevent

Use a light moisturiser
You may think you do not need a moisturiser since your skin is oily but you need to replace the lost moisture or else your skin may feel dry and produce more oil than required. But opt for an oil-free moisturiser that hydrates without leaving an oily layer.

Don’t skip the sunscreen
A sunscreen will help keep your skin stay protected from UV rays of the sun. Skipping it can lead to other problems such as premature skin ageing, uneven skin tone, pigmentation, etc.

Opt for oil-free cosmetics
To prevent looking cakey and greasy, make sure you opt for water-based or oil-free cosmetics as they are light and do not block pores. They will prevent pimples as well if the products have the word ‘non-comedogenic’ on them.

Drink plenty of fluids
Drinking water will detoxify your body and maintain your fluid balance. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day to improve the appearance of your skin.

Always remove make-up before going to sleep
Never, ever go to sleep with make-up on.
You risk clogging your pores and creating a haven for bacterial growth. No matter how tired you are, always cleanse the make-up off your skin before going to sleep.

Try easy home remedies
Home remedies are considered to be better than chemical products as they are natural and have lesser or no side-effects. Honey, multani mitti, aloe vera gel, etc. are a few ingredients that can used on oily skin. Vinegar is also very helpful in treating oily skin.
